Updated Positional Training Schedule
4/28/2008

There has been a slight change in the Positional Schedule. The following is from Kevin:

We just found out that we do not have WCTC on Wed night. We are going to move all of the groups to Milwaukee Lutheran. Please see the attached sheet for player assignments. The only group that I know that is practicing on their own are the 16 White team. I am also sending this to all of the team reps. Can you all make sure to contact each player on the team and make sure that the changes are understood. Thank you all for all of your help.

JVDA Announcement
4/23/2008

The Junior Volleybal Directors Association (JVDA) Championship to be held inLouisville, Kentucky from June 27-30 currently has over 430 entries with expectations that the event will reach approximately 500 teams by the closing deadline of May 5.

The tournament will feature several divisional championships from ages 12-18 as well as a mini-volleyball exhibition on June 29 showcasing athletes six to nine years of age.

Currently the JVDA is working to develop and produce a television package that will showcase the entire event, including personal interest stories on individual players as well as highlights from several age group championships. To highlight the tournament the 18 Open Gold Medal match will be played early on June 30 and the entire tournament will be shut down for a period of 90 minutes to allow all participants, coaches, and parents to witness this match. The JVDA expects 5,000-10,000 to be on hand for this championship event that will showcase two of the finest junior teams in the United States.

The JVDA will also be offering several educational forums as well, in the areas of recruiting, the student-athlete experience at the collegiate level, youth volleyball and opportunities for playing at the international or professional level.

A special thank you to Mizuno for their generous assistance as title sponsor, and also to Molten who will be the official ball for the JVDA Championship.

A Trio of Commits
4/23/2008

Three Milwaukee Sting players have recently made their college decisions. Starting off, Kelsie Rankin (Neenah H.S.) of Sting 18 Gold has decided to head to St. Louis where she will become a member of the NCAA DII University of Missouri St. Louis Tritons. The next two players are both from Sting 17 Gold. Karen Sueppel (Cedarburg H.S.) will join several other Sting alum at DI Loyola University Chicago. Last but certainly not least, Sam Minton (Pius XI H.S.) is heading to DI Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE). Congratulations all around. You have a lot to be proud about and we are certainly proud of you!

College Fun Facts:
According to Wikipedia.org, "As of October 2007, the waiting list to become a patient in the School of Dental Medicine is approximately thirteen months in length" at SIUE. It's no surprise that the 2006 study by the psych department on orally fixated sadists has been extended "as needed."

Also at SIUE, the campus has earned the title "Campus with the most Geese" by the American College Ranking Counsel (ACRC). The most used phrase by students gingerly walking around campus in the spring as determined by the American College Rankings of Overused Cliches (ACROC)? "Oh Crap."

What exactly is a "Triton?"

  • King Triton is the son of Neptune, the god of the sea. "Otis" the god of the much closer Mississippi River just didn't have the same wow factor as decided by school officials.

Loyola University Chicago was the location in which the movie "Flatliners" was flimed starring the likes of Kevin Bacon, Keifer Sutherland and a host of other "Brat Packers." Another movie which is yet to be released (2009), was also shot on campus. It is called "The Unborn." Flatliners was released on August 10, 1990. Karen's birthdate is September 23, 1990 thus making her "Unborn" when Flatliners was released. How's that for full circle.....yeah it's a stretch but it's something.....

  • Age is just a number

Article By: Mark Hastings - 14 Gold

The Sting 14s were apprehensive going into the Sting 2008 Open this past weekend. On the docket were 17s, 16s and 15s teams including many from their own club. This was no small ticket for the 14 year olds. This seemingly ominous task was made doable with a combination of determination and teamwork. The girls all came out with a positive attitude and focused attention to the coaching of Teri Leach. Everyone put the effort out on the floor Sunday while off the court they stayed together, enjoyed each others company and friendship. Clearly this was a team effort and it was evident that their mental state of mind matched their physical abilities. They kept their wits about them as they picked off the opponents one by one and point by point. The girls were determined not let age mean anything here and found that everyone can contribute to the bottom line. When offensive and defensive moves are both working, victory is the result!

[Editors Note: 14 Gold defeated 16 White, 15 White and 15 Gold en route to their championship]

It's that time of year once again. We are about midway through the season and it is time to start thinking about the annual Sting Golf Outing.
