Hobbs to Valpo - 14 Black in Rochester - Golf 6/1/2009
Valpo Wants Stinger 5.1.2009
Sting 17 Gold player, Janelle Hobbs has committed to
Valparaiso University. Valpo is an NCAA Division I member and is part of the
Horizon League. Congratulations, Nelly ("Honker") we are proud of you!
On Memorial Day weekend the Milwaukee Sting 13 Gold went to the Dells Center for the Prep VB Classic to see if
they could play with the “BIG GIRLS” as assistant Margaret put it so eloquently. In doing so they came home with
the Silver Title (5th place) and a whole lotta respect. They only lost one match the whole weekend to M-One 14-1’s
who ended up winning the Gold Title on Monday. This group battled hard all weekend facing all 14’s teams and never
once showed any sign of being intimidated by the BIG GIRLS!!!! They had some very exciting matches against STC
Xplosion from Missouri, our very own in state rivals WI Jrs. 14-2’s, Northern Lights 14-3’s and in the Silver Final
a 3 set match against WI Jrs. 14-1’s team to win the Silver Title. The girls showed they were up to the task when
play was on the line. They have taken one step closer in their journey to becoming a great TEAM in all meanings of
the WORD!!!!!!!
14 Black Brings Home 16 Club Cup 5.21.2009 Article By: Carrie Hansen - 14 Black
Sting 14 Black played Eden Prairie 16-2's for the championship in Rochester this past weekend. Splitting the first two games, Sting was down 5-10 in
the last match with no time outs left. Coach Kristen thought "Holy Crap!" and Coach Toni was at a true loss for words. Coach Toni did what she could with
random line up checks and excellent coaching with Kristen, as the girls played hard to strategically win the game and get the coveted amazing trophies. 14
Black won the third set 17-15! Quotes from her team afterwards:
Kayla Rymer "A lot of fun!"
Rachel Hudson "Ridiculous outcome!"
Katie Koller "Best energy ever!"
Geneva Yee "Amazing - We got balls!"
Shannon Klink "Played together as a team!"
Jamie Graham "Intense and focused!"
Mary Kate Dougherty "Bruise in the face from Bethany was worth it!"
Rachael Binash "Gold trophies!"
Bethany Hansen "We are beast!"
Kristyn Paszkiewicz "Intensity level soared!"
[14 Black seems to be having far too much fun this year. Success AND fun? How does she do it? P.S. Look at how high "Money" is...] Aurora, IL - 4.19.2009
The site of Coach Toni's first bridal shower (and her team's too!). Girls threw a surprise bridal shower for Coach Toni,
dressing up in old bridesmaid dresses and making a tissue wedding dress for the bride-to-be (Toni was a very good sport!).
The girls all want to be in Coach Toni's wedding, but that's another year, so we decided to do the next best thing this year! Fun!
Golf Outing 5.21.2009
What great weather for this years golf outing! As a non-golfer myself, I learned a lot this weekend.
I learned a cut in golf isn't necessarily on par with a 'cut' in volleyball. I learned under Wisconsin law, it is illegal to bring ones own alcohol on to a golf course. Not that anyone I knew did that; I'm simply saying I learned it.
I learned to never assume the ball you are picking up belongs to someone you know....people are rabid about their golf balls. I learned there is a "Ranger" on golf courses whose job it is to make sure people like Colleen and her group stay on time.
Last but not least I re-affirmed what men have known for centuries, duct tape can go on anything; even driver heads.
As I made my way over the course, snapping pictures of the various groups, people asked me why I don't golf. Allow me to share my golfing philosophy with you. It's a lot like drinking and driving.
It's dangerous for a person to drink and drive. It is just as dangerous to place a club in my hands and ask me to hit a ball and avoid hitting people....with the ball and club alike. I'm doing my civic duty in the spirit of public safety by not golfing.
A big thank you goes out to all of the teams and the fantastic baskets they donated to the yearly raffle. Another thank you goes to the following people as well:
Sue Minton for all of her work with the baskets and setting up the dinner.
Colleen for coordinating the baskets.
Rob for organizing the event.

Although I don't golf, putting I actually can relate to. I once won a free game putting into a clowns mouth. Check out this put by Nancy Rushman:
It's a series of images and not true video. Sorry for the small size. (Firefox, Opera and Safari have no problem with the video. IE8 and Chrome seem to have issues with the display.)
Thanks to all who participated in this years outing. It was great fun and we look forward to it again, next year!
