Better late than never...

There is some belated commitment news to pass on. Sting 18 Black has four players who have recently committed to college programs for the fall of 2007. First up is Kim Angst (Catholic Memorial H.S.). The DS is going to be digging things up around Packer Country at St. Norbert's College located in De Pere, WI. Next up is OH Diane Schmidlin (Brookfield East) who will be taking her swings over the next four years at Southern Illinois University - Edwardsville (SIUE). Another OH claiming a home court for the next four years is Melissa Cindric (Franklin, HS). Melissa will also head south this fall and drop her gear for a four year stay at Rockhurst University in Kansas City, MO. Heading in another direction completely is Lauren Voss (Arrowhead H.S.). She will become a Scarlet Knight at Rugters University in New Brunswick, NJ. Congratulations to you all!

Did you know?: ( Mostly From Wikipedia)

  • St. Norbert's was founded by Norbertine Abbot Pennings in 1898. Abbot later went on to early Hollywood fame as the straightman for the duo of Abbot and Costello...okay that part is a lie but it sounded more interesting.
  • Mannie Jackson, owner and CEO of the Harlem Globetrotters grew up in Edwardsville, IL. I once watched "Globey" leap over a bench and brawl with some teenagers at a globetrotter game....this one isn't a lie.
  • "Kansas" was actually derived from the French "Cansez" as it was originally settled by French. Cansez City Royals just doesn't sound right. I'm glad we changed it.
  • There is a place at Rutgers called "Voorhees Mall" and it's part of an October Ghost Tour. The guy who keeps popping up in those Friday the 13th movies is named, Jason Voorhees. I want to be in that mall during a tornado. My money say's it won't collapse and if it does it will come right back.

  • In Our Thoughts
    5/22/2007

Yesterday morning there was a traffic accident involving a past Milwaukee Sting athlete. The accident involved Sam Gillard. Sammy played for Sting at 13's and again at 15's. She is currently listed in serious condition at Children's Hospital. We would like to take a moment to let the Gillard family know that they are in our thoughts. Get well, Sam.

15 Black Making Strides Off The Court

Article By: Tracy Galweski - 15 Black

Volleyball isn't always about just playing on the court. Last weekend some of the 15 Black team and parents took a day off of practicing and did something for a good cause. They raised almost $500 and participated in the 'Making Strides Against Breast Cancer' walk at the Milwaukee lakefront. It was a very cool, windy, rainy morning but our group stuck it out and walked the 5 miles. Our head coach Dave Galewski found out about the race from work. There was a whole group from Batteries Plus that raised money and walked as well. Because my sister, grandmother and aunt are all breast cancer survivors I thought it was important I attend and asked the team to join us. The team was excited to do something different and something for a good cause. It was nice to have a day off and do something good for someone else. Thanks girls (and parents) for participating!

    Dutkiewicz Points Northward
    5/21/2007

It's UW Stevens Point for Sting 18 Black OPP, Leah Dutkiewicz (Muskego H.S.). Dutkiewicz will begin making points with the pointer program this fall. Did you know that Stevens Point is home to several haunted bridges and a local legend named "Old Swenson" who is a legless ghost that 'hangs' out on or around County Road II? Congratulations Leah! The Sting family is proud of you!

13 Black Swings Hard for Silver

Article By: Taylor Dunklau - 13 Black

The 13 Black had a pretty good day on 5/13/07, AKA Mother's Day. We gave our moms a great present, too. We started the day off in a tough pool; two of the teams had earned a bid to nationals. That didn't scare us!

We started the day off strong with a win against Smack Next Level 14-2's. We played some great volleyball and never gave. That means… a win in two games! Our next match was against West Allis Lightning 13-1's. Game 1 was a slow start for us. We were behind 11 to 21, but we did not throw in the towel. After a good time out to regroup and refocus, we began a 7 point run. We managed to catch up and recover 10 points. Unfortunately we lost the first game, but the fight wasn't over yet. With our adrenaline pumping, we put up a great fight and gave that team a run for their money. With one thing in our mind, taking it to three, we played our hearts out. With outstanding serving and powerful hitting we convincingly won game two. With a victory in mind, we put forth all of the effort we had, but unfortunately lost a very close game three 12-15. We gave it our all, and can be proud of our effort. Our next match was against River City 14-1's, another tough team. We stayed strong and carried on; again with outstanding serving and hitting. We kept our focus, but the ball just wasn't falling our way and we unfortunately lost. That put us into the silver bracket.

In the silver round, we put what happened in the past two matches behind us. We were ready to play. After reffing the quarter finals, we took charge of Southwest 14-1's, and proudly won in two. Our last match found us meeting our very own 12 Gold in the finals. They are a very talented, strong team and it was a lot of fun to play them. After numerous volleys and great rallies, we won. That made us Silver Division Champs.

That's how our tournament went. We played some of the best volleyball, physically and mentally, that we have played all season. Much thanks to Coach Pat and Coach Kim for teaching us the past couple of weeks what it means to never give up…….. Can you say PIT DRILL!!!!
